Insurance for 2 weeks in France

Postby Springtime » Sun Mar 07, 2010 5:45 pm

Hi
We normally go to France for at least two weeks a year & book through Carefree (Caravanning & Camping Club).
This is the first year that we will take the RV and have noticed that the insurance breakdown cover standard offering through Europ Assistance is limited to vehicles of 8mtrs and 4,250kg weight.
The RV is 8.3mtrs in length & 6,800kg which is outside the maximum.
What do you guys do or what can you suggest?

Thanks

Steve

We have the same deal as Roy, yet to be tested (fingers crossed and thank goodness) but seems to be excellent.

Hi Steve,

RAC Arrivals (you have to be a member of the C&CC) is excellent. I know, I've had to have my RV recovered on 3 separate occasions. The gearbox in DavidA's Winnebago failed when they were on holiday in France. A recovery truck was with them within a few hours although it was too late for the driver to set off back the same day. They all slept in the RV on the back of the trailer!
Regards Doug

I keep pressing escape but I'm still here

when i took my first rv to spain i got breakdown cover with the RAC,i broke down with gearbox trouble 250 kilometers from my destination on the costa del sol at first they said they would not pay and after some very heated words from me they relented,i told them that i wanted to be taken to my destination as it was nearer and thats where i wanted to go but the girl on the phone said "the computer says no" and i had a hell of a job convincing her that it was in their interest rather than taking me the 750 kilos back to bilbao it took three days to sort out so i think that if you have a big vehicle you need to make sure that you tell them that you cant put it on the back of a transit recovery truck
